Active Snakes & Ladders: Sustainability is a printable movement-based board game designed for Physical Education teachers who want to connect active play with meaningful learning.

Students play in small teams, roll the die, move around the board, and visit different color stations. Each station includes a different type of task: individual movement challenges, team cooperation activities, strategy cards, or sustainability-themed quiz questions.

The game encourages students to move, think, cooperate, and reflect on important topics such as environmental protection, recycling, responsible choices, children’s rights, respect, animal care, and social responsibility.

This is more than a board game. It is an active learning tool that turns sustainability education into a playful, movement-rich experience.

How Students Play

Students work in teams of 2–3 players. Each team has a board, a pawn, and a die. Around the playing area, there are five color stations with challenge cards: green, red, blue, yellow, and purple.

Teams roll the die, move their pawn, check the color of the square, and go to the matching station. They draw a card, complete the challenge or answer the question, and then return to the board to apply the color rule.

The first team to reach the final square wins.

Color Stations

Green — Individual Challenges / Positive Choices
Students complete movement challenges and can earn a bonus move.

Red — Individual Penalty Challenges
Students complete a challenge. If they succeed, they stay safe. If not, they move back.

Blue — Team Challenges
Students work together to complete cooperative movement tasks.

Yellow — Team Challenge + Strategy Card
Students complete a team task and then draw a strategy card.

Purple — Sustainability Questions
Students answer multiple-choice questions about the environment, responsibility, children’s rights, respect, animals, water, recycling, and sustainable choices.
