Colpbol in Physical Education: A Game That Builds Teamwork and Inclusion

When inclusion, cooperation, and joy come together in one game — something magical happens. Colpbol brings all that and more to your classroom.

What Is Colpbol?

Colpbol is a fast-paced, inclusive team sport created in 1997 by Spanish PE teacher Juanjo Bendicho. It’s an “invasion game” — two mixed-gender teams try to score by hitting a ball into the opponent's goal. But what makes Colpbol special are its rules, carefully designed to ensure equal participation, collaboration, and non-stop involvement.

There is no dribbling or holding the ball. It must be played exclusively by striking — usually with open hands or upper body — and only one touch per player is allowed before they must pass. Each team has a goalkeeper, but field players cannot use their feet or hold the ball. These simple rules create a fast, fair, and highly engaging game.

My Classroom Experience

I discovered Colpbol during a PE training seminar. It immediately intrigued me, and when I tried it with my students — even as young as 2nd grade — the reaction was amazing.

Students were more excited than they are for soccer! Even my most behaviorally challenging class played Colpbol calmly and cooperatively. The built-in structure of the game fosters teamwork, self-regulation, and mutual respect. There’s no room for individual domination — every pass counts, and every teammate matters.

⚽ Minimal Equipment – Maximum Impact

All you need is a lightweight, medium-sized ball and a playing space — a handball court, a gym, or even the schoolyard. It’s easy to organize, requires no fancy equipment, and delivers immediate engagement.

📚 Why It Works: The Pedagogical Power of Colpbol

Colpbol is not just a game — it’s a tool for shaping young minds and hearts. It supports:

  • Inclusion: All students, regardless of skill, participate fully and equally.

  • Respect for Rules: Clear and fair rules promote accountability and fair play.

  • Self-Regulation: The nature of the game encourages students to manage impulses.

  • Cooperation: Success depends on teamwork, not individual talent.

  • Trust & Belonging: Students grow closer as they rely on each other.

Final Thoughts

Colpbol is much more than a break from routine. It’s a transformative addition to any PE program. My students ask to play it again and again — not because it’s trendy, but because it makes them feel seen, valued, and connected.

Try Colpbol in your class. Watch your students move, smile, grow, and thrive — together!
