This board game was born from a simple but meaningful question: How can I help children explore important concepts — like sustainability or healthy habits — in a way that’s fun, collaborative, and movement-based?
I wanted more than just a fun activity.
I wanted a tool that would combine knowledge with movement, strategy with teamwork.
A game that gets children thinking, moving, cooperating, and reflecting — all at once.
That’s how the Active Learning Board Game came to life: a smart and playful way to integrate physical and cognitive goals into your lesson.
This isn’t just a board game — it’s an educational tool designed to help children explore meaningful themes like sustainability and health through movement and play. Blending cognitive learning with physical action, this game invites students to think, move, and collaborate. Let me show you how I made it — and how you can adapt it for your own classroom.
The game was entirely designed in Canva, using simple shapes, bright colors, and child-friendly layouts.
It was designed to be:
Visually engaging for students
Flexible for any thematic unit
Easy to print and adjust as needed
The board includes 94 colored squares.
Each color represents a different type of challenge:
🟪 Purple – Knowledge cards (multiple-choice style)
🟥 Red – Individual physical challenges
🟩 Green – Skill-based personal tests
🟦 Blue – Cooperative movement activities
🟨 Yellow – Group strategy and decision-making
Over 150 cards were created in multiple categories:
📖 Knowledge cards – e.g., environment, nutrition, Olympic sports
💪 Motor skill challenges – e.g., balance, accuracy, agility
🤝 Team challenges – promoting collaboration and roles
🎲 Strategy cards – requiring group decisions
To keep the game accessible, I used everyday materials:
bottle caps
paper tokens
small objects as pawns or dice
👉 The goal: make it easy to implement in any classroom without special equipment.
The game is played in teams.
Each team rolls the die and moves forward.
They complete the challenge based on the color they land on:
📘 Purple: answer a knowledge question
🔴 / 🟩: perform a solo motor activity
🔵: complete a team-based task
🟡: make a strategic choice as a group
🧠 Learning is reinforced, 🏃♀️ movement is encouraged, and 🎯 objectives are achieved — with joy and full engagement.
The best part?
My students kept asking to play again!
This game quickly became a classroom favorite — not just because it’s fun, but because it:
gives children a voice
promotes collaboration
and transforms learning into a meaningful, memorable experience
